Reduced
downtime

HealTech™ brings an in-situ repair that is 400x faster than standard composite repair. Reduced downtime reduces maintenance costs.

High
performance

After repair, composites have a full recovery of mechanical properties, maintaining a high performance throughout their whole lifetime and in low to cryogenic temperatures.

Improved
sustainability

Future waste is prevented due to the ability to repair instead of replacing composite parts. The extended lifetime reduces material use.

Operational
efficiency

The reduction of defects during production allows to increase operational efficiency.

Microcracks
reduction

HealTech composites can repair microcracks in the matrix while maintaining initial technical properties.

Application Examples

Towpregs for cryogenic and space application with ESA

CompPair is leading innovation in the space industry by applying its healable technology to Towpreg manufacturing for cryo tank applications. Conducted under ESA Contract No. 4000140708 within the OSIP framework, it aims to prevent micro-cracks in cryo tanks, even at extremely low temperatures. Furthermore, HealTech™ technology allows for the creation of type 5 tanks without internal liners, offering improved durability and efficiency.

Autonomous sensing and healing for space applications with ESA

The European Space Agency backs CASSANDRA project: CompPair, Com&Sens and CSEM join forces to advance composite structural health monitoring and repair technology (under ESA contract n°4000143717). This pioneering initiative aims to revolutionise the inspection and repairability of composite structures, particularly in the aerospace sector.

Motorglider wheel cover with Altus

CompPair has developed wheel covers for the Altus motorglider, which are prone to damage during take-off and landing, necessitating frequent replacement. To minimize material waste and extend the lifespan of the covers, CompPair and Altus collaborated to create healable wheel covers. Altus specializes in designing stable and user-friendly motorgliders, emphasizing high-quality materials and advanced technical solutions.

Technical Foam Sandwiches

HealTech™ foam sandwiches can heal 5cm wide dents in 1 minute without impacting paintwork and without debonding. This functionality opens new possibilities to produce lighter parts and panels designed for impact healing. Benefits include:

  • 480x faster repair

  • 100% repair efficiency

  • +80% damping

  • 100% compatible process

APPLICATION EXAMPLES

CompPair, in partnership with Almatech SA and Connova AG through the ESABIC Switzerland Program, has developed a landing leg prototype utilizing composite materials. This collaboration aims to leverage the benefits of composites for load-carrying landing leg components, including weight reduction and cost efficiency.

The project's focus was on showcasing composite regeneration on the prototype, highlighting its potential advantages under repeated stresses. CompPair demonstrated the ability to produce large-diameter CFRP tubes with a diameter exceeding 200mm and a wall thickness surpassing 5mm. Additionally, HealTech™  materials passed outgassing tests successfully, affirming their suitability for aerospace applications.

CompPair is working with ArianeGroup to shape the future of access to space for a faster turnover of reusable vehicles to reduce launch costs. We have joined the Ariane Group consortium to define the 2025-2050 technology and demonstrators roadmaps for the European Space Agency (ESA) reusable space vehicles. This work is part of the New European Space Transportation Solutions (NESTS) framework and specifically for the Post Themis Reusability ITT.

CompPair collaborated closely with the team’s equipment managers and athletes to develop a healable hockey stick prototype.

Utilizing advanced composite materials and innovative design techniques, the new stick boasted a unique healing mechanism that repaired minor damages during play, effectively prolonging its lifespan.

Les résultats

4.
